Raven Golf Club at South Mountain

A Traditional Layout in the Heart of the Sonoran Desert...

“From day one, when Gary and I began to layout the Raven at South Mountain, I knew we had something very special.” -David Graham

A Midwestern treasure in the heart of the Valley of the Sun, the Raven Golf Club at South Mountain has distinguished itself since its inception in 1995 as one of Arizona’s premier golf experiences. This upscale daily fee course, designed by former US Open and PGA Championship winner David Graham and award-winning golf course architect Gary Panks, features a 7,078 yard layout. Plush, rolling fairways are framed by more than six thousand mature Aleppo, Mondale and Canary Island pines along with African Sumac and oleander as well as vistas of rugged desert mountains and the Phoenix skyline. Combining great design, meticulous conditions and outstanding guest service, the Raven at South Mountain creates the ambiance and feel of a private country club and lasting memories for those fortunate enough to play a round.

The Raven at South Mountain’s pine forest sets the stage for a traditional Midwestern golf experience, which may at first seem a little out of place in its desert setting, but has become a welcome departure from the Valley of the Sun’s plethora of desert courses. Here, emphasis is on the quality of the golf experience and service, evidenced by praise from the golf community including honors as “#1 in Golf Course Service in North America” by Golf Digest. The Raven’s staff enjoys a reputation reflecting attention to detail in course conditions and the highest quality in guest service.

David Graham and Gary Panks were able to transform the foothills of Phoenix’s South Mountain into a layout that challenges skilled veterans of the game, yet at the same time remains enjoyable for average players. The 7,078 yard golf course features beautiful beds of Georgia pine mulch separating in bounds and out-of-play areas and countless flower gardens accenting the greens and tees. Vistas of the rugged desert mountains or the Phoenix skyline await at every hole, with sunsets adding a special glow at the end of the day.

The three most challenging holes  the Raven at South Mountain offers are the par 4, 477 yard, 3rd hole, a lot of golf between tee and green to make par; the 593 yard, par 5, 17th hole which plays even longer with a pair of fairway bunkers guarding the right side on the second shot; and the 596 yard, par 5, 4th hole, with the right front and side of the green protected by a giant bunker.

Birdie attempts are most likely on the 167 yard, par 3, 14th hole; the 137 yard, par 3, 2nd hole; the 195 yard, par 3, 11th hole and the 325 yard, par 4, 5th hole.

The Raven Golf Club at South Mountain is the perfect site for tournaments and group outings, providing all the necessary ingredients to ensure memorable events. From the dramatic challenge of the golf course to the comfort of the hacienda-style clubhouse, guests enjoy a golf experience and personal service without equal in a public golf course.
