Rich in history, this land's legacy is distinctive, thoughtfully preserved, and woven throughout the resort experience. As you stroll the grounds, the past comes to life through historic site plaques and curated photo displays, tracing a story that begins in 1879 when George and Sarah Thurston claimed a 152-acre homestead with a one-room wood shack. By the 1940s, William “Bill” Bryant had acquired 87 acres in Aliso Canyon and had begun building what would become the golf course, which was officially established in 1950 as the Laguna Beach Country Club.

The property evolved over the decades—purchased in 1956 by Ben and Violet Brown, who envisioned a destination resort, and introduced in 1963 as the Laguna Beach Country Club and Village. With the opening of Ben Brown’s Restaurant and a new Golf Shop in 1967, the site continued to grow, later becoming Ben Brown’s Motel & Golf Course in 1970 and then Aliso Creek Inn & Golf Course in 1978. After its purchase by Aliso Creek Properties in 2003, the property retained its name until 2014, when it was reimagined as The Ranch at Laguna Beach, ushering in a new chapter while honoring its storied past.

Today, The Ranch at Laguna Beach continues to uphold its legacy as a top-tier golf destination, welcoming players of all ages and abilities to enjoy a one-of-a-kind golfing experience.
